Painted metal trays are all the rage, and we have many different sizes, colors, paintings, age, and makes. You can set on table or shelf, or lean against wall to fill bare spot. Do the same on floor or hang grouping of trays on wall. Even better, when you need a tray to carry food or drinks to you guests, there will be a big selection to choose from.
You`ll see how they will brighten up a room, while filling bare, boring areas. Decorated painted trays are not only a piece of artwork, but also can be used in any room of house, and can be grouped with plates, trays, prints, even juicers. It is always intersting to decorate with grouping of items not typically dispayed on walls.

See Photo For Example

            Silk Plants Always A Plus

Silk (or even real plants) always look great and soften the look of any room in any home. They make your home look homey warm and welcoming. If you have real plants they will help with the air quality too.
I love silk plants. Most now days look very real. Don`t just place in boring pots, use items that normally never would be used for plants. The picture shows some silk herb plants sitting in a silverplate punch bowl. The combination of green plants and the shiney silver is a wonderful look.

One of my antique merchants takes an antique flour sifter, lays it on the table and places the silk plants in that. Great look.

Books are now a huge decorating element. You don`t have to read the books in order to use them for decorating. Many people have collections of cookbooks, but never cook, they just look neat on a shelf or table. You can tell alot about a home by what kind of reading material are on display sports, decorating, mysteries, etc. Use whatever type of books you favor either by title, color or size. Stack on floor in empty corner, on tables, in baskets, or on shelves. Stacked books make wonderful little pedestals. If an item isn`t tall enough when doing a grouping or tablescape, place on stack of books. On shelves don`t just stand books on book shelf stack some with a piece of pottery, statue, vase, etc on stack. Books also look great just as a stack of books, offers guest interesting reading. Make you shelf or tablescapes interesting.
Cherry Hill Antiques carries lots of books, old, newer, cookbooks, coffee table books, all kinds at fantastic prices. Check the Books Papers pages on this website for books that are for sale.

            Wall full of picture frames

Search your garage, basement, attic for any old or vintage picture frames and hang on wall. Don`t worry if you don`t have pictures or photos go into them. Frames come in all sizes, styles, woods, colors and some are carved, gold leafed or painted. If you don`t have any just shop the antique stores, thrift stores and garage sales. Most antique stores have many beautiful frames for just a few dollars. Of coarse the better the condition, carving and type of wood raises the price. If they are not in good shape paint them.

Grab a hammer and nail and start pounding. I suggest you lay them on the floor to see what pattern you want to hang them. Turn them side ways, upside down, caddy corner and don`t forget to place smaller ones inside the bigger. This will be enough, but if you want more you can add some postcard, old photos, vintage plates, etc. Just nail or place a small piece of rolled scotch tape or double sided tape on back. The photos don`t have to fit the frames. It actually looks better if you place a few in each frame.

You can leave that way or you can do like I did in the picture and add depression glass dishes to add a little sparkle. The long narrow boards that are in the photo are antique pelt strechers. Would also look great with enamalware, ironstone almost anything you want.

This is a very fun, fast, inexpensive way to decorate. You can add your own touches to this idea. Send me a picture of what you do to decorate your walls inexpensivly.

Many people have hanging silk plants and vines in their homes. It is easy to change these silks to Christmas. Don`t bother taking them down, just place Christmas garland over silk garland, and stick evergreen branches (real or artifical) in the pots with the silks. To add a little more Christmas spirit stick artifical Poinsettia`s in garland and plants.
When Christmas to over just take out and your back to normal. Takes only a few minutes.
