OLD GEEZER STAINED GLASS

ARTIST STATEMENT My fascination with stained glass began when I visited old cathedrals in Germany while in the Air Force. I marveled at the windows and how the different colors and textures of glass were combined, but was disappointed by the heavy look imparted by the lead came used to construct the windows. After retiring I took a class in stained glass and realized that a construction method using copper foil to fit the pieces together was much finer for detail work, and suited my passion for fitting glass as closely as possible.

My stained glass pieces have evolved to include framed and free style wall and window hangings. Along with lamp shades in both the Louis Comfort Tiffany round, and Frank Lloyd Wright prairie styles. My latest development has been a free form “Tree Hugger” series of smaller inexpensive pieces.

I have a small studio at home and use the copper foil method of construction, ideas and subject matter come from nature, pattern books and art books.

My goal is to bring out the beauty of stained glass not only by the choice of color and texture but by incorporating the grain in a pleasing way. My pieces are carefully constructed, fitting together closely, and are finished by soldering with as smooth a bead as possible. I take pride in my work by sighing and dating each piece.
